![]() Stromboli in Pinocchio was probably the first one that I saw. I like pretty much all of the villains and villainesses. I was a big fan of Hans Conried, who was the voice of Captain Hook also had a presence on television, playing a gazillion different weird characters, when I was growing up. It makes a big difference to how the story plays out and how exciting it can be, whether it’s in the writing or in the actual playing of it. You have to have something to push against and the tougher the villain, the tougher the obstacle, the better the story. Let’s face it, without a good villain, you don’t have a good story. What appealed to me was their sort of operatic scale. I told you before, I always loved Disney villains. Nobody thinks of everything on their own. Jonathan Freeman: Oh, God, yes! Everybody is formed in some way, no matter what they tell you. Josh Weiss: Were you influenced by a specific bad guy that you looked up to? Looking at the character’s face and how the dialogue was written … that’s really it. They also sent a preliminary drawing of Jafar it is not the drawing Jafar-Andreas Deja’s finished drawing of Jafar that we know-but it was a drawing that had a lot of similarities, things that gave me some clues. They sent me a couple of scenes that I knew I was going to be auditioning with and you just have to listen to the language and get an idea. Jonathan Freeman: I went to work at it the way I go to work on any character … You start with the text. Josh Weiss: How did you craft the voice of Jafar? Just before Christmas of 1990, my agent called to say that I booked the job and I started working immediately in January of 1991. ![]() The second audition was in an enormous room filled with everybody from Disney. The first audition was just me and a piano player and the casting director in a room the size of a closet. It was quite a longe time before I had a callback. We went after it she submitted me and … I had an audition in the summer of 1990. who was also very interested in animation. © 2023 NYP Holdings, Inc.When this opportunity came up, I had a wonderful agent at the time. “I’ll look stuff up about what they do for a living and tailor my jokes to that,” he said at the time. You want to share it.”ĭuring the start of the pandemic in spring 2020, Gottfried revealed to the outlet that he “puts extra effort into things” for customers on the app. “That voice worked so well on our medium. “He had a magic voice,” Galanis continued. “If Cameo had a Mount Rushmore,” Cameo’s co-founder and CEO Steven Galanis told THR recently, “Gilbert would certainly be on it.” There are also about 200 hours of videos that he created before his passing, according to The Hollywood Reporter. ![]() The stand-up recorded about 12,000 Cameo messages altogether, earning him over $2 million. Viewers needed to fork over $175 per video, but the money was well spent, as he would bring in loads of five-star reviews for his work on the app. Gottfried was also one of the top earners on Cameo - a video app where fans can ask their favorite celebs to send them personalized messages. The highest-paid and most bankable celebrities on the Cameo app I think ‘Aladdin’ is really more of a comedy than most Disney movies … We thought Gilbert could bring some of that kind of humor earlier in the movie.” “It seemed like having another comedian really early on would help sort of set the tone. “It’s almost 40 minutes into the movie when the Genie makes his first appearance,” Clements previously said. The pair played the chairman a clip from Gottfried’s film “Beverly Hills Cop II” in order to convince him of the late actor’s comedic chops. The 1992 animated flick’s co-directors John Musker and Ron Clements believed that Robin Williams’ witty blue Genie needed a perfect foil to complement his character.Īnd Gottfried was that person to bring the villainous bird to life.Īccording to The Ringer, the filmmakers needed to sell their idea to then-Walt Disney Studios head Jeffrey Katzenberg. There is apparently unseen footage featuring the comedian, who died on April 12 at the age of 67, in his role of the clever parrot Iago in Disney’s “Aladdin” as well as 200 hours of content left on his Cameo page. We haven’t seen the last of Gilbert Gottfried. Gilbert Gottfried honored at ‘Aladdin’ on Broadway: ‘Thank you for your voice’ How Gilbert Gottfried kept working, being a ‘know-it-all’ up until his death Gilbert Gottfried’s pals reveal shocking jokes he made about his own death ![]() If you have ever noticed the Outlook splash screen when you start Outlook it will say what add-ins it is loading and if it gets stuck on one or takes too long to load one you can disable or remove it if it’s not something you need.
